Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar End Five-Year Defamation Battle

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar have resolved their five-year-long legal battle through mediation. T

The case, which began in 2020, stemmed from Akhtar’s defamation complaint against Ranaut over her remarks in a television interview that allegedly damaged his reputation.

Ranaut had countered with accusations of criminal intimidation and insult to modesty during a 2016 meeting at Akhtar’s residence.

Both parties appeared at the Bandra magistrate’s court on February 28, 2025, where they mutually withdrew their complaints. Ranaut acknowledged that her past statements were made due to a misunderstanding and offered an unconditional apology.

Akhtar reciprocated by withdrawing his defamation case and other related pleas. The court officially acquitted both of all charges, cancelling their bail bonds.

Following the settlement, Ranaut praised Akhtar as “kind and gracious” during the mediation process and revealed that he agreed to write songs for her next directorial project.

The resolution marks a significant end to their prolonged public feud.
