Kangana Ranaut’s controversial film ‘Emergency’ put on hold

Emergency pe Emergency laggai!

Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming controversial film ‘Emergency,’ is reported to have been put on hold.

The film was supposed to be released on September 6.

The movie, which Ranaut both directs and stars in, was initially slated for release later this year but has been pushed back to a yet-to-be-announced date.

Emergency has garnered significant attention due to its politically charged narrative, focusing on the period of the Emergency in India from 1975 to 1977, a turbulent time in the country’s history.

Ranaut portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a role that has already sparked considerable debate and controversy.

While the reason for the postponement has not been officially disclosed, industry insiders speculate that the decision may be related to the film’s negative portrayal of the Sikh community.

The trailer of the film caused a stir across Punjab upon its release leading the Censor Board to instruct that the controversial scenes be removed, taking into account the sentiments of the Sikh community.

Meanwhile taking to social media on Monday, Kangana expressed her frustration describing the move as “demotivating and unjust.”

“Law of the land is that one can show unimaginable amount of violence and nudity on OTT platforms without any consequence or censorship, one can even distort real-life events to suit their politically motivated sinister motives, there is all the freedom for communists or leftists across the world for such anti-national expressions,” Kangana said in a post on X.
