Veteran Bollywood Actor Mushtaq Mohammad Khan Escapes Kidnapping Attempt
Police have since detained several suspects and are actively investigating both cases.
Mushtaq Mohammad Khan, a veteran Bollywood actor known for his roles in popular movies like Gadar and Welcome, is reported to have survived a kidnapping attempt.
He was reportedly abducted on November 20, 2024, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident involved a group posing as event organizers who lured Khan under the pretext of an award ceremony. They initially contacted him in October, offering an advance payment of ₹25,000 and arranging his travel from Mumbai to Delhi.
Upon his arrival in Delhi, Khan was picked up by a driver and transferred to another vehicle, where he was joined by additional men. This group forcibly took him to a secluded location in Bijnor, where he was held captive for approximately 12 hours. During this time, the kidnappers assaulted him and demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore, ultimately transferring ₹2 lakh from his son’s bank account.
Khan managed to escape early on November 22 after hearing the Fajar Azan (morning call to prayer) from a nearby mosque. He sought refuge there and contacted his family for help.
Following his escape, Khan filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case under Section 364A of the Indian Penal Code (kidnapping for ransom) against seven individuals involved in the crime.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern in which multiple celebrities have been targeted in similar abductions in the region. Notably, comedian Sunil Pal was also kidnapped shortly after Khan’s ordeal, suggesting a coordinated effort by the same group of criminals.
Police have since detained several suspects and are actively investigating both cases.
