Amazon Mistakenly Releases Handmaid’s Tales Sequel Ahead of Launch

Taking up the story of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tales, after 15 years the sequel of the book was all set to be released worldwide on September 10. However, e-commerce giant Amazon did a massive blunder which caused a great of frenzy and anger for the publisher Penguin Random House.

Ahead of the book, titled The Testaments, release, Amazon mistakenly sent some 800 copies to the readers. This caused a major uproar by independent retailers, who demand the e-commerce site to be penalized.

“A very small number of copies had been distributed early due to a retailer error which has now been rectified,” said Penguin Random House on Twitter.

However, various retailers are upset over the ‘mistake’ and demand the publisher to penalize Amazon for the mistake.

“A reasonable person might argue that a vendor should see consequences for every copy of an embargoed book they release early,” tweeted Lexi Beach, owner of Astoria Bookshop, New York.

Albeit the frenzy, the readers who have received the copy of the book are overjoyed and took to social media to express their happiness.
