Renowned Scholar and Writer Jamil Jalibi Passes Away at 89

Jamil Jalibi was recipient of highest civil awards Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz


Author of famous Urdu books Tareekh-e-Urdu, Janwarsitan and Tanqeed aur Tajarba, Jamil Jalibi passed away today at the age of 89, due to extended illness.

The noted scholar and linguistic was born on June 12, 1929 in Aligarh and later moved to Pakistan after the partition. Alongside his acclaimed literary work, he also chaired the Muqtadara Quami Zaban (National Language Authority) for a long time and served as the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University from 1983 to 1987.

He was conferred upon Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq Award by Pakistan Academy of Letters for his work in the field of Urdu literature and education.
