A new turn in Meesha Shafi-Ali Zafar defamation case

Meesha Shafi was cross-examined via video link

Meesha Shafi-Ali Zafar’s defamation case took a new turn as the proceeding of the case resumed in a Lahore sessions court.

Singer Meesha Shafi, who accused actor-cum-singer Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, has admitted giving a false statement during media talk as the proceeding of the defamation case resumed in a Lahore sessions court on Feb 23.

In the latest development on the defamation case, the female celebrity singer was cross-examined via video link as Additional Sessions Judge Khan Mahmood heard the case – filed by Ali Zafar.

Ali Zafar attended the hearing in person.

Proceedings of the Defamation Case:

Ali Zafar’s lawyer, Advocate Tariq Gul, questioned Shafi about the evidence of sexual harassment she submitted in court. The evidence was a photo of both singers together which the female singer had uploaded on Facebook.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the picture could not be considered evidence of sexual harassment because she was the one who uploaded it with the caption “tonight we party”.

To which, Shafi replied that she did not remember the picture and would have to see it to comment further.

Following the argument, Meesha Shafi was shown the photo.

Advocate Tariq Gul further asked Meesha about her claim that the court never summoned her. The lawyer noted that the female singer made a ‘deliberate misrepresentation’ of a court order. Meesha Shafi responded that it was a ‘slip of the tongue’.

The court adjourned the hearing and ordered that the cross-examination of Shafi would continue on March 1.

Ali Zafar has denied the allegations of sexual harassment and filed a defamation suit against Meesha Shafi.

Ali Zafar Reacts:

Following the hearing, Ali Zafar in a tweet said, “They just can’t handle the fact that the person they vouched for and fought for blindly was caught lying in court. Now how do they save face. All the activism down the drain.”
