Ali Sethi opens up about Indian authorities warning their artists against collaboration with Pakistani artists

Ali Sethi’s live sessions on Instagram, ever since the coronavirus lockdown has garnered a lot of attention. Especially after Sethi featured with veteran singer Farida Khanum and collaborated with singer Rekha Bhardwaj and her husband filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj from across the border.

Following Ali’s lead, a number of artists from Pakistan and across the border started collaborating and it was indeed a great time for music enthusiasts as they got to enjoy real music without borders.

However, after an online concert by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and some Indian performers, the Indian body Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) got down to work and once again issued a notice warning Indian artists against working with Pakistani artists.

Sethi took to his Instagram to speak about the issue.

Sethi got directly to the point sharing jow he had been receiving messages from people about the notice by an Indian organisation warning it’s artists against collaborating with Pakistanis over social media.

“They have been criticising me, calling me names for taking the initiative when we haven’t cared about the same way,” said Ali while referring to his online collaborations with singers across the border.

Ali explained how everything had been spontaneous, “This was spontaneous. It’s not something we planned, it did not have an agenda.”

“Music always transcends borders, we listen to music from around the world… people listen to our music too.”

“It’s not something you can control or you should control,” stated Sethi while he also answered back a lot of trolls for abusing him for collaborating with Indian singers.
