Popular singer-songwriter Asim Azhar and actress‑model Merub Ali have officially announced they are parting ways, ending their engagement, which began in March 2022. The couple released a joint statement via Asim’s Instagram Story on June 12, 2025, describing the split as “peaceful and mutual”.
“After a great deal of thought and reflection, Merub & I have chosen to move forward on separate paths peacefully & mutually,” Asim wrote.
He emphasised their enduring respect for one another and their families, noting that despite sharing “meaningful moments” and hopes for the future, “life sometimes takes its own course”.
Asim concluded the message by appealing for privacy and “understanding … during this time,” asking that the breakup be treated “with the same grace with which it is being shared”.
Following their public announcement, both stars have removed joint photos from Instagram and have unfollowed each other on social media platforms.
Merub Ali, best known for her roles in Sinf‑e‑Aahan and Faraar, where Asim contributed to the soundtrack, has not yet made a personal statement.
Fans are responding with concern and surprise, some expressing the sentiment, “They looked so good together,” while others point to the long engagement as a possible sign of underlying issues.
This breakup marks another chapter in Asim’s high-profile romantic history; his previous relationship with actress Hania Amir ended in 2021 after nearly two years together.
