Atiqa Odho Faces Backlash for Calling Artists ‘Ambassadors of Love’ Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Atiqa Odho’s call for artists to act as ambassadors of love and avoid political involvement has sparked a polarized response

Atiqa Odho, a senior Pakistani actress, has faced significant backlash after calling artists “ambassadors of love” during a recent television interview amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions.
She urged artists from both countries to refrain from hateful remarks and avoid becoming involved in political conflicts, emphasising that their role is to spread love, peace, and cultural harmony rather than engage in wars or politics.
Odho highlighted that, unlike other professionals such as doctors or lawyers, actors are unfairly criticised for working abroad or remaining neutral during conflicts. She appealed to artists, musicians, writers, and others in creative fields to focus on unity and harmony rather than hostility.

However, her remarks were met with strong criticism from several fellow artists and the public. Critics like actress Rabya Kulsoom and Mishi Khan argued that public figures, especially during times of national crisis, have a responsibility to openly support their country.
They labelled Odho’s stance as irresponsible and out of touch with the patriotic sentiment prevailing during the conflict. Some accused her of downplaying the severity of the situation and questioned her neutrality, especially given the ongoing military tensions and accusations between India and Pakistan.

The controversy also reflects a broader debate on the role of artists in political conflicts, with some advocating for neutrality and peace, while others emphasize patriotism and vocal support for their nation during crises.
