Ayyan Ali submits plea to LHC to revoke arrest warrants

Ex-super model Ayyan Ali, who was recently deemed as a proclaimed offender by Special Customs Court judge, Arshad Hussain Bhutta, with perpetual arrest warrants issued in her name, has now submitted a plea to the Lahore High Court, requesting to revoke the issued warrants.

Ayyan has submitted a plea to the Lahore High Court (LHC) to revoke her arrest warrants as she states that she wants to appear before the trial court. Citing Article 10-A , which ensures right of a transparent trial to every citizen of the land, Ayyan has requested the arrest warrants be revoked.

“I want to appear before the custom court to prove my innocence in the case”, Ayyan’s plea read.

In March 2015, Ayyan Ali was arrested from the VIP lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on money laundering charges. Ayyan was supposed to board a flight to Dubai and was found carrying $506,800 in her luggage.

As per Pakistani laws, a citizen cannot carry over $10,000 on a flight.

Ali was taken into custody and sent to Adiala jail after which she was released on bail in July 2016 and her name removed from the Exit Control List. Following that, Ayyan flew to Dubai and has now missed repeated hearings calling for her appearance in court.
