K-pop sensation BTS is out from the 2020 Grammys!

The nominations for next year’s music awards have been announced on Wednesday morning — BTS did not receive a single Grammy nomination and not even a single K-Pop act was nominated for any of the categories, even though bands like BTS and BLACKPINK have outsold most American artists.

Their exclusion from the nominations drew the ire of BTS Army—almost immediately on the internet, fans erupted into a fury on social media, saying the South Korean boy-band was robbed.

The Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards each year, did not immediately respond to a MarketWatch request for comment. But ARMY expressed their displeasure on Twitter.

American singer Halsey, who collaborated with BTS on the hit single “Boy With Luv” that won the inaugural Best K-Pop award at the MTV Video Music Awards last summer, also chimed in on Twitter, noting that the U.S. is “so far behind on the whole movement.”

The huge fandom of the Korean boy-band were flabbergasted the group could be edged out of the awards despite BTS has become one of the biggest musical sensations worldwide within the last 11 months.

 

The band’s hit album Map of the Soul: Persona marked their third chart-topping record in less than a year. The album outsold even the most popular of American artists, including Beyonce’s Homecoming, which released the same week as BTS’ album.

“Someone tell me how BTS, didn’t get any Grammy nominations…like map of the soul persona sold over 4 million copies, A MINI album, had the most views for their music video, hard more impact that a majority of artists this year. #GRAMMYs,” a fan wrote on Twitter.

Another called out the Grammys for only supporting diversity within the music industry when it best suits them. “BTS deserves way better, aesthetic diversity isn’t it,” the tweet read.

A BTS fan tweeted, “The full nominations list is on the Grammys website. BTS got nothing. seriously robbed and ignored, what the hell? best selling album of the year and one of the biggest music acts in the world right now. what more do Grammys want? for them to be white?”

The K-pop band has been nominated in three categories for the upcoming 2019 American Music Awards to be held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 24, determined to win a title for the second year in a row.

The boy-band will compete in the categories of Favorite Duo or Group — Pop/Rock, Favorite Social Artist and Tour of the Year, according to the lineup for nominees for the event.
