Cristiano Ronaldo breaks down in tears during Piers Morgan interview

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo was reduced to tears during a television interview with Piers Morgan after being shown footage of his late father he had never seen before.

Ronaldo, crying, said: “I never saw the video. I never saw that video. Unbelievable.”

Ronaldo was only 20-years-old when his father died of liver failure at the age of 52 after battling alcoholism. He had only been at Man United for a couple of years when his father passed away and so missed many of the biggest moments of his career.

Those biggest achievements include five Champions League titles, the same number of Ballons d’Or and leading his country to Euro 2016 glory and also the Nations League trophy.

The celebrated footballer couldn’t suppress his emotion as he explained how his dad didn’t live to see his historic achievements in the game.

When asked how it felt to hear his father talking of his pride at his son’s achievements, the former Real Madrid player replied: “Yes, a lot.

“I think the interview would be funny, but I didn’t expect to cry. But I never saw these images. I don’t know where you… I have to have these images to show my family.

“But I really don’t know my father at 100 percent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard.”

The 34-year-old football star said: “My family see, my mum, my brothers, even my old son, but my father, he didn’t see anything, and it was… he died young.”

Ronaldo also revealed he plans to marry his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez one day, but not just yet.

The Spanish model, 25, is the mother of one of his four children. He said: “She helped me so much. Of course, I’m in love with her.

He said: “We’ll be [married] one day, for sure. It’s my mum’s dream as well. So, one day. Why not?”

Ronaldo, further added that, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me”.

He has also admitted he feels “embarrassed” as he tries to shield his family from allegations that he raped a woman in the United States.

Ronaldo, Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Serie A club Juventus and captains the Portugal national team, was accused of sexually assaulting Kathryn Mayorga in a Las Vegas hotel in June 2009.

The former Manchester United great revealed the allegations had taken a mental toll on him as he sought to protect his children from the reports.

“They play with your dignity,” Ronaldo told ´Good Morning Britain´ in an interview with Piers Morgan, which was aired on tuesday. “It´s hard. You have a girlfriend, you have a family, you have kids. When they play with your honesty, it´s bad, it´s hard”.

“I remember one day I was at home in the living room with my girlfriend watching the television to see the news and they speak about ´Cristiano Ronaldo this and that”.

“I listened to my kids coming down the stairs and I changed the channel because I was embarrassed.

“I just changed the channel for Cristiano Jr not to see that they speak badly about his father about a very bad case.”

Prosecutors in July this year has announced that they would not be prosecuting the case because the allegations could not “be proven beyond a reasonable doubt”.
