Demi Lovato Apologizes for Her Recent ‘Spiritual Trip’ to Israel

Demi Lovato was recently in Isreal for a ‘free trip’ and as her better judgment failed, she posted the pictures on social media, praising the spirituality and magical experience she found in the city.

“There is something absolutely magical about Israel. I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God…something I’ve been missing for a few years now,” Demi wrote on social media last week.

However, for the obvious reasons, the star was criticized by Muslim and pro-Palestinian groups on social media; and after a severe backlash, Demi issued an apology on Instagram.

“I’m extremely frustrated. I accepted a free trip to Israel in exchange for a few posts. No one told me there would be anything wrong with going or that I could possibly be offending anyone. With that being said, I’m sorry if I’ve hurt or offended anyone, that was not my intention,” wrote the 27-year old.

“Sometimes people present you with opportunities and no one tells you the potential backlash you could face in return. This was meant to be a spiritual experience for me, not a political statement, and now I realize it hurt people and I’m sorry,” she added.

Demi also wrote, “Sorry I’m not more educated, and sorry for thinking this trip was just a spiritual experience. Going against all advice right now because it feels right to me and I’d rather get in trouble for being authentic to myself, than staying quiet to please people.”

However, after the apology, Demi was contacted by Palestine support groups on social media who asked her to raise voice against Israeli atrocities. Seeing the increased political influence, the singer took down her apology.

It is though evident from one of the comments she made on her ‘magical trip’ post , that the Stone Cold singer does not want to be any part of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“Okay, but do you all realize, I don’t have an opinion on middle east conflicts nor is it my place to have one being an American singer and you’re asking me to choose a side,” she responded to a comment that criticized her for her trip.
