Did John Abraham take a dig at A list Bollywood celebs?

Bollywood has become less of the entertaining industry it was before and more of a money making machine now. More and more celebrities, who were deemed as stars at a certain time, are more focused on delivering big budgeted failures, as 2018 saw. Last year, none of the Khans, despite bringing big budgeted films, did not manage to earn critical acclaim for their films despite doing business over the 100cr mark in India. It was in fact small budget films with talented budding actors which manage to not only earn amazing reviews and earn more than expected on the box office.

Sharing the same view about high paid actors who have been delivering box office failures is actor/producer John Abraham. John turned producer with film Madras Café, a critically acclaimed venture and ever since then he has been part of and backed films which have done remarkably well on the box office.

In an interview to an Indian daily, John Abraham shared how he felt actors were obsessed about being on a ‘list’.
“As an actor you are here to show your craft. How much money do you want to mint? Why is it important to be on a list of the highest earners? What about the audience you are robbing with crap you put out? I have always worked hard for credibility, I get that, I move on quietly. I wish we had more actors cut out from the same fabric,” stated the Paap actor.

Perhaps John’s comment was directed at India’s highest paid celebrities who manage to stay on top of a certain list but deliver only useless films at the box office. An example; 2018 had Salman Khan as the leading highest-paid celebrities in India for the third time in a row. But on the work front, Khan’s only 2018 release was Race 3 which did not earn any positive review on the box office at all.

Taking a jibe at celebrities who are trolled on social media, John shared that he felt ‘they’re asking for it.’

“Aren’t celebrities also asking for it, wearing funny clothes outside airports and doing funny things. You can only be laughed at if you decide to be a clown in the circus. It’s your choice. I’m not an actor who dances at shows or weddings for money. I find it demeaning. I’m not saying that I’m right, but I wouldn’t do it, ever,” said John.

On the work front, Abraham is currently busy shooting for Romeo Akbar Walter, 1911 and Batla House.
