Exclusive: Mikaal Zulfiqar opens up about playing Lieutenant Haris in Sherdil

We’ve seen him spread his magic on the television screen and on cinema as well. This sauve, sophisticated and very dapper, handsome young man, surely knows his craft too well. As a model, Mikaal Zulfiqar is super stylish and as an actor, he’s one who can convince you of his character within a few minutes.

We last saw convincingly portray a negative character Mohtasim in ARY Digital’s Khasara and while we wait to get Mikaal back on television, it seems, he’s all geared up with his next cinematic outing.

The news has been doing rounds on the circuit for quite a long time. Mikaal Zulfiqar will be seen opposite Armeena Khan and alongside Sabeeka Imam and Hasan Niazi in the upcoming Azfar Jafri directorial Sherdil. And now it seems, the film is all set to make its appearance on cinemas soon.

Shooting has been wrapped up for Sherdil and as Mikaal exclusively told Oye Yeah, we’re expecting to see the teaser sooner than ever, next month for sure. Talking about the release date, Mikaal told us that they’re expecting an early 2019 release. Risking a guess that since its a movie about the Pakistan airforce, we can expect a release on 23rd March perhaps.

Talking about his character, Mikaal shared, “I play Lieutenant Haris in the film. My character is that of a fighter pilot and his journey of becoming first the top pilot in Pakistan Airforce and then in the whole world.”

“I won’t say that this film is more of a tribute to the Pakistan Airforce, because its a feature film. However, it has a patriotic inclination alongside the personal story of Lieutenant Haris and of course the young cadets of the force. We had to abide by the set code of conducts for the pilots as well. Sherdil’s story is that of a nation’s journey along with an individual’s journey for his country as well,” shared Mikaal.

To his and our excitement, Mikaal did not only wear the uniform of a fighter pilot for Sherdil, but in fact went on to fly in a real fighter jet as well. “I took 4 different flights for Sherdil, had flight experience in a fighter jet ad also went on an actual mission with the air force. For Sherdil I can safely say that I put my life in risk as well because we have some really dangerous, life risking stunts in the film that I did myself.”

Armeena Rana Khan, plays Mikaal Zulfiqar’s love interest in the film and there are some really beautiful songs to look forward with the duo in it. On working with Armeena, Mikaal shared, “It was been an amazing experience for me to work alongside Armeena and team Sherdil. We’ve given this film our 100%.”

Sherdil has been produced by NK Pictures and has been directed by the Janaan and Parchi director Azfar Jafri, cinematographer Riki Butland of Star Trek: Beyond fame and Scott Newman for the film’s VFX have been called in all the way from Hollywood. Alongside Mikaal Zulfiqar, Armeena Rana Khan, Hassan Niazi and Sabeeka Imam, Sherdil will also star Samina Ahmad, Laila Zuberi and a few newcomers.

On the work front, Mikaal Zulfiqar has also wrapped up shooting for another film project and is currently considering projects for television as well.
