Game of Thrones: Book Six and Seven Still Unfinished – George R.R Martin Shuns Rumors

Earlier last month, actor Ian McElhinney – who played Ser Barristan Selmy on the show – made a claim regarding completion of book 6 (The Winds of Winter) and 7 (A dream of the Spring) of the Ice and Fire series. Unfortunately, author George R.R Martin has categorically denied Ian’s claims and said, “It’ll be done when it’s done.”

“I don’t know if you know more than me about this, but what I’ve been told is that George has already written books six and seven,” McElhinney had said.

“And as far as he’s concerned, there only are seven books. But he struck an agreement with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], the showrunners of the series, that he would not publish the final two books until the series has completed,” he revealed.

Speaking of Ian’s character that is still alive in the books, he had said, “I’m intrigued to know how Barristan, for instance, ends up going through those final two books.”

Taking it to his official blog, George rather furiously shrugged of the rumors on the subject.

“It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels? Why would my publishers ever consent to this? They make millions and millions of dollars every time a new Ice & Fire book comes out, as do I. Delaying makes no sense,” said quite an assertive George Martin.

“So no, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David & Dan. There is no ‘deal’ to hold back on the books,” said the author categorically.

Albeit that George clearly denied sitting on finished books, fans are rather perplexed on what’s taking him so long. Regardless of the fact that A Game of Thrones (first book of the series) and A Dance of the Dragons (fourth book) were completed in a span of 15 years — 1996-2011 — fans are guessing that eight years is quite a lot of time for even someone like George.

Nonetheless, it seems like we have to wait quite a while to satisfy our curiosity about the ending in the book, the television show’s finale however will air this Sunday, May 19.
