Disgraced Hollywood filmmaker Harvey Weinstein has been stripped off the honorary award that was given to him by British monarch Queen Elizabeth. The decision of the annulment came after Weinstein’s conviction on the charges of raping an actress and sexually assaultinga former production assistant.
“The Queen has directed that the appointment of Harvey Weinstein to be an Honorary Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 29 January 2004, shall be cancelled and annulled,” reported London Gazette of the award that is the second highest honorary award by the Queen.
“Forfeitures are not that uncommon. “We don’t comment as Her Majesty acts on the advice of the Forfeiture Committee, which sits under the Cabinet Office,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson was quoted by BAZAAR.com.
Weinstein is currently serving a 2323-year sentence in New York prison while another case of sexual misconduct is going on against him in Los Angeles.
