Haseeb Pasha aka Hamoon Jadugar expressed his disappointment over Mehwish Hayat being awarded the national accolade, instead of him in a recent interview.

Renowned Pakistani artist Haseeb Pasha played Hamoon Jadugar in that Pakistan Television’s (PTV) iconic 90’s children’s show Ainak Wala Jin.

In a recent podcast interview with Hafiz Ahmed, revealed that the Pride of Performance award, which recognizes significant contributions to the field of arts, had eluded him for four consecutive years, and on one occasion, it was given to popular actor Mehwish Hayat.

Pasha recalled, “When Ata Ul Haq Qasmi became Chairman of PTV, he had seen my drama three to four times. He told me that for all my work – he was a committee member – and that I should be awarded the Pride of Performance award. It was a shock for me, but I was also happy. He said my name would go for the award. He, with his signature, sent in my name to Islamabad. The officers approved it as well.”

He said that his name was written and sent from Punjab for the medal of distinction, but when the names were announced, Mehwish Hayat was given this honor in his place at the last moment.

He expressed his disappointment and said that there is nothing for him who has been working for children for forty years and awarded the young girl for her beautiful performance.

He further teased that there seem to be some Jins in Islamabad who made my name disappear from the list!

Mehwish Hayat was awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz on March 23, 2019, which is the Medal of Excellence, a state-organized honor given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements, for her contribution to Pakistani cinema.

It seems like Pasha was talking about the Pride of Performance Award, which is the highest national literary award in Pakistan, recognizing notable achievements in various fields such as art, science, literature, sports, and nursing.
