The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton joined the annual Royal Diplomatic Reception at the Buckingham Palace with her husband Prince William on Wednesday.
Hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, the reception is one of the most anticipated annual Royal events at Buckingham Palace attended by the members of the Diplomatic Corps based in London.

The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge attended the annual Diplomatic Reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The Duchess stunned in a new navy velvet dress by Alexander McQueen. About jewelries, she wore: -the Lover’s Knot Tiara -the Queen’s Nizam of Hyderabad necklace (finally again!) -the Queen’s Diamond Chandelier drop earrings Other accessories worn by the Duchess: -the Royal Family Order (yellow badge) a special honor given by the Queen to female members of the royal family for their services (6) -the Royal Victorian Order sash and star, a special appointment she received by the Queen last April on her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince William in recognition of her years of service as a member of the Royal family (6) -an unidentified ring, never seen before. We don’t know if the ring is part of an existing collection or is a gift (7) . . #royalstyle #katemiddletonstyle #royalfashion #katemiddletonfashion #katemiddleton #duchessofcambridge #instaroyals #royalnews #duchesskate #duchess #catherinemiddleton #catherineelizabethmiddleton #monarchy #britishroyals #royalfamily #britishroyalfamily #buckinghampalace
The Duchess in the event wore a floor-length velvet gown by Alexander McQueen seemingly giving tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s Travolta Dress.

More details from yesterday reception: The velvet navy dress by Alexander McQueen worn by the Duchess of Cambridge reminds me of the "Travolta Dress" worn by Princess Diana at the gala dinner at the White House in November 1985 during which she danced with the american actor John Travolta (for this reason it’s known with this name). She wore it again in 1987 during a tour in Germany (my pic) and in 1988 at the premiere of the film Wall Street in April 1988. The Duchess of Cambridge sparkled with the Queen’s Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace (worn also in 2014 by the Duchess), a wedding gift for the then-Princess Elizabeth from the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1947. She wore the Queen’s Diamond Chandelier Drop Earring but we have little informations about their origins. The Duchess completed her regal look with the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara. Someone calls it “the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara” but they are two different Tiaras. In 1818 King George III’s son, the Duke of Cambridge, married Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel and one of her wedding presents was the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara. In 1858 Augusta passed the Tiara to her daughter, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The Grand Duchess’s niece was Queen Mary who absolutely loved this Tiara but she didn’t inherit it because it passed to Grand Duchess’s granddaughter and then it was sold. But Queen Mary loved the Tiara so much that she decided to have a copy on her own collection. So the Queen’s Mary Lover’s Knot Tiara was done by Garrard in 1913, using diamonds and pearls taken from other jewelries. Initially it was also topped by a series of upright pearls (just like the original, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot), but lather has those removed. Queen Mary passed this Tiara to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth. . . #instaroyals #buckinghampalace #monarchy #royalstyle #royalfashion #princessdiana #dianaprincessofwales #ladydiana #dianaspencer #queenelizabeth #princesskate #hermajesty #queenelizabethii #duchesskate #katemiddleton #duchessofcambridge #hrh #futurequeen #royalhighness #royalfamilies #royalfamily #royals #britishroyals #catherinemiddleton #catherineduchessofcambridge
The navy blue velvet dress which Princess Diana wore for dance with the Hollywood actor John Travolta in 1985 was recently brought back to Buckingham Palace.
The dress was purchased for $347,000 in an auction.
Kate Middleton in her velvet dress looked strikingly similar to Diana wearing “Travolta Dress” is one of a photo dancing with the Hollywood actor at a royal reception.
The only difference of the dress was the long sleeves of Kate and the high-rise V neckline, while Diana’s outfit featured an off-shoulder detailing.
The Duchess of Cambridge complimented her look with a diamond necklace from the royal collection.
