Life Achievement Award for Julie Andrews

Julie Andrews, Hollywood actress has been selected as the recipient of the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute Board of Trustees.

The award will be presented to Andrews on April 25 in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be telecast on TNT.

Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, said, “Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way. Her talents across time have inspired a shared sense of joy across generations, and her gifts to our cultural heritage are a testament to the power of this art form to bring us together when we need it most. AFI is proud to sing her praises with its 48th Life Achievement Award.”

Andrews who made her Broadway debut in 1954 with “The Boy Friend” and her feature film debut in 1964’s “Mary Poppins”, has a score of achievements to her credit in the entertainment industry.

She has won the Best Actress Oscar for “Mary Poppins” in 1965 and was nominated for “The Sound of Music” and Victor/Victoria.”

She has won five Golden Globes, three Grammys and two Emmys. And also received Tony nominations for My Fair Lady, Camelot, and the stage version of Victor/Victoria. She is also a Kennedy Center honoree, a Disney Legend inductee and the recipient of a SAG Life Achievement Award.

Her carrier spanning over more than four decades has so many wonderful feature films to her credit, including Torn Curtain, The Americanization of Emily, Hawaii, Thoroughly Modern Millie, 10, The Man Who Loved Women, Enchanted, and Aquaman.

Julie Andrews released her first memoir Home: A Memoir of My Early Years in 2008.

Her second memoir titled, “Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years” was released on Oct. 15.

In this follow-up to her critically acclaimed memoir, Home, Julie Andrews shares reflections on her astonishing career, including such classics as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and Victor/Victoria.
