Mahira Khan quotes Manto in wake of motorway rape incident

The motorway gang rape incident has sent shock ripples all across the country. Taking the toll from the incident many have taken to social media to express their rage.

Among these many Pakistanis, the country’s top star Mahira Khan also shared her thoughts by quoting celebrated writer Manto.

She shared an excerpt from the writings of writer Saadat Hasan Manto that describes the current state of women in our society, saying,  “Hamare Han Izzat Ki Haqdar Sirf Ghar Ki Autron Ko Samjah Jata Hai, Baqi Aurtein Hamare Liye Gosht Ki Dukanne Hain Jin k Bahir hum Koutto ki Tarah Zuban Latkae Kharre Nazr Aate Hain”.

Mahira Khan in the caption of her post said:

“Hang them! Kill them! Publicly shame them! – It won’t change a thing. The problem is so deeply ingrained within our society, so deep-rooted that even the officer said – ‘she shouldn’t have left at that time. This is the way our society is’. We are immune to it. We are ok with it.”.

“Why should we accept this mindset?  Why should we question the victim yet again and not those who commit the crime?”, questioned Mahira.
