Following model Emaan Suleman’s refusal of her Lux Style Awards nominations, Generation and makeup artist Saima Bargfrede have also formally renounced their nominations for LSA 19 in the Achievement in Fashion Design (pret) and Best Hair and Makeup Artist categories respectively.
According to the statement released, the brand does not want to be enlisted for awards that have also nominated an alleged sexual harasser. The entities believe they would be doing a disservice to their women empowerment motto if they share a platform with an alleged harasser.
Following suit, singer Meesha Shafi, who alleged Ali Zafar to have sexually harassed her in April last year, has also renounced her nomination for Best Song at LSA. Taking to Twitter the singer announced that she had written the song “Mein” at a particularly difficult time in her life and drove strength from it. Shafi requested that her name be removed from the nominations as well.
Emaan Suleman’s, Generation’s, Saima Bargfrede and Meesha Shafi’s move comes after actor cum singer, Ali Zafar, who allegedly sexually harassed Meesha Shafi last year, was nominated for Best Actor for his film Teefa In Trouble at Lux Style Awards 2019.
