Pakistani actors have been offered roles from across the border since ages. And Mehwish Hayat too was approached for a number of films. Talking to BBC, Hayat revealed that she turned down Aishwarya Rai’s role in Fanney Khan opposite Anil Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao.

Hayat was also offered the role Huma Qureshi played in the Madhuri Dixit starrer, Dairh Ishqiya which she turned down because the filmmaker wouldn’t change the intimate scene in the script with Arshad Warsi.

According to Mehwish, she turned down these roles consciously to stay and work in Pakistan for its cinema industry. The actress also added that she wanted to prove her excellence in Pakistan more than she wanted to work in India since Pakistani actors aren’t treated fairly across the border.
