Musician and producer Haniya Aslam passes away aged 39

Celebrities and fellow musicians express their grief and pay tribute to her contributions.

Pakistan’s music industry lost one of its most cherished and gifted musicians, Haniya Aslam.

Musician and producer Haniya Aslam passed away due to cardiac arrest on Sunday, Aug 11, announced singer and cousin Zebunnisa Bangash on social media on Monday.

In a post shared on Monday morning, Bangash posted an old picture of Haniya and wrote “Hanini” in the caption.

Haniya Aslam, one of the co-founders of the music band Zeb and Haniya, left a significant mark on the music industry with her talent and creativity.

The band, which she founded with her cousin Zeb Bangash in 2007, gained widespread recognition after their soulful track “Paimana” featured in Coke Studio Season 2 in 2008.

Haniya Aslam left the group Zeb and Bangash and moved to Canada in 2014 to complete her education and began her solo career in 2016.

Her untimely passing at the age of 39 has left the music community in deep sorrow.

Celebrities and fellow musicians have expressed their grief and paid tribute to her contributions.

The band Josh shared their condolences, saying, “Today, our music fraternity lost an incredible artist and soul. You will never be forgotten, Haniya.”

 

Mekaal Hasan of the famed Mekaal Hasan Band mourning the loss said, “This is just devastating. Haniya, you know how much I love you, my sweetest friend. I’m so blessed to have spent so many moments with you. Rest in peace my dearest. We are all heartbroken.”

Filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar posted a video collage of Aslam’s works on her Instagram with a caption, “I don’t know where to begin. I could speak of the music she produced, the songs she sang, and how Zeb and Haniya as a band brought joy and pathos to me and so many others.”

“But beyond her artistic gifts, she was such a soft-spoken, non-judgmental, kind, endlessly curious, and loving person.”

Host and singer Dino Ali posted, “She was always so sweet and a brilliant talent — I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah Pak gives you and the family patience during this difficult time.” He wrote on his stories, “I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Haniya Aslam. You were always so sweet and such a warm person and an incredible talent.”

Her legacy continues to resonate through her music, and she will be remembered for her contributions to the industry.
