Nasir Adeeb issues apology after facing heat for linking Reema Khan to Heeramandi

"For God's sake forgive me," Nasir Adeeb said

Nasir Adeeb, a prominent Pakistani scriptwriter, has issued a public apology to actress Reema Khan following significant backlash over his comments linking her to Lahore’s red-light district, Heeramandi.

During a podcast, Adeeb recounted an experience from his early career when he and director Yunus Malik scouted for talent in Heeramandi. He claimed to have met a young girl, whom he later identified as Reema Khan, but rejected her due to her appearance, describing her as “made of plastic” and lacking emotive eyes, which he deemed essential for acting.

The remarks sparked outrage within the entertainment community and among fans, prompting several celebrities, including Mishi Khan and Imran Abbas, to criticize Adeeb for his insensitivity and for revealing personal details about Reema’s past.

In response to the public outcry, Adeeb appeared on the same podcast to apologize, stating, “For God’s sake forgive me,” and admitted that he had spoken without verifying the facts.

He expressed regret for spreading information about Reema’s background without proper research and acknowledged that such behaviour contradicts moral teachings.

In his apology, Adeeb also shared that Reema’s real name is Samina and discussed her challenging upbringing, revealing that her family struggled financially during her childhood.

“She lived in that bazaar, where there’s no poverty and no shame.”

He concluded by asking for Reema’s forgiveness and recognizing the importance of respecting individuals’ privacy and dignity in the entertainment industry.
