Tan France Pakistani British fashion designer, most commonly known for his work in the Netflix reboot of Queer Eye, has started a new Instagram account.
The designer’s Instagram account named Shaded, the first thing he took to talk about, was the issue of of racism picking up the biggest name in lightening creams, Fair & Lovely and state how it had jaded the society with colourism and set fairness as a standard to beauty.
“One of the main reason’s I started this account. This bullshit, right here! Fair & Lovely. The name itself. Feels like a gosh darn hate crime. How is this even legal? How is this product still available in our local grocery stores, sat at the checkout, as a constant reminder that one should strive for fair skin, as fair skin = beauty?,” questioned Tan on his Instagram.
Adding further, how people needed to rid themselves of the color complex, Tan France, further urged people, “If you use this, or know of anyone using these bleaching creams, please know that they are bullshit. Your color is beautiful. You are desirable, just the color you are.”
Recently, Pakistani actress Iqra Aziz also called out such brands for stereotyping the society’s standards of beauty. The actress turned down an advertisement for a fairness cream and was appreciated by her fans and followers for the same.
