Following in the footsteps of his late mother Princess Diana, Prince Harry walked on Angola landmine in Hambou, Africa. Earlier when Diana walked on the landmine, filled with skull and crossbones warning signs, she had an aim to bring attention to the 27-year long conflict people of Hambou were living through.
The Princess’s walk on January 15, 1997, changed the course of life for people living in Angola, as the African country is now free of the civil war and landmines have become a rarity. In addition, the Princess also managed to help implement a ban on some war weapons.
“Land mines are an unhealed scar of war,” Harry said in the town of Dirico. “By clearing the land mines we can help this community find peace, and with peace comes opportunity,” said Harry as he stood on the spot where his mother was photographed 22 years ago.
Hambou now looks forward to becoming a landmine free zone by 2025. A goal shared by many countries.
