Riz Ahmed to explain his ‘toxic breakup’ with Uk with a new piece in Manchester

Riz Ahmed, best known for his on screen roles but also for his rap alter-ego, is all set to explore his complicated relationship with Britain with a new piece in Manchester in which he will be seen melding rap and theater together to explain his toxic breakup.

Riz Ahmed’s new piece titled ‘The Long Goodbye’, is described as a personal and close up look at the breakup of a toxic relationship with, what Riz Ahmed called home and will feature new songs he’s been working on for some while. The album will display similar elements described as “bracing and emotional” from the Swet Shop Boys rap group who released one album, 2016’s politically charged Cashmere, and two EPS.

In an interview, Riz Ahmed describes his feeling from his new piece and how he desperately waits to introduce it to his fans with the world premiere “I can’t wait to come to Manchester and share the world premiere of this live experience. It takes us on a journey through our past to the current crossroads we face as a multicultural society.”

John McGrath, the artistic director, and chief executive of Manchester International Festival, says “We are so pleased to be working with Riz Ahmed to premiere his new show [The Long Goodbye] in Manchester. Riz is an extraordinary and fearless artist and an increasingly important commentator and activist.”

Written and performed by Riz Ahmed himself, the song will be directed by Kirsty Housley, who co-directed the experimental Philip Glass- inspired theatre piece “Tao of Glass” at the last years MIF.

Ahmed will be performing his new piece ‘ The Long Goodbye’ for three nights from 26th March 2020 to 28th March 2020, at the former railway station turned arts venue, Mayfield, before the show travels to Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York on 3-4 April.
