Rowan Atkinson Reveals Discontent with Mr. Bean Role
Atkinson stated, “I don't really like playing it. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant”.

Rowan Atkinson, the iconic actor known for his role as Mr. Bean, has expressed his dissatisfaction with playing the character, revealing that he finds it “stressful and exhausting.”
In a recent candid interview with the Daily Mail, Atkinson stated, “I don’t really like playing it. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant”.
He hinted that he is glad the role is over and suggested he may never reprise it, emphasizing that the process of creating content is generally unappealing to him, with the exception of his work on Blackadder, where the comedic responsibility was shared among many.
Atkinson acknowledged Mr. Bean’s success but noted that it never surprised him. He finds humour in the character’s portrayal of an adult behaving childishly without awareness of his inappropriateness, stating, “Watching an adult behaving in a childish way without being remotely aware of his inappropriateness is fundamentally funny”.
Despite the character’s popularity and enduring appeal, Atkinson’s reflections indicate a complex relationship with the role that has defined much of his career.
