Famed singer Shahnaz Begum who sang the iconic national songs ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’, ‘Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhe’, has passed away at the age of 67 at her residence in Baridhara, Bangladesh.
According to the media reports she suffered from cardiac arrest which proved to be fatal.
She was born on 2 January 1952 in Dhaka and sang for Bengali and Pakistani films. Her main domain of singing involved modern songs (Adhunik Gaan) and patriotic songs.
She emerged as a singer in Dhaka in the mid-1960s. In the early 1970s, she sang patriotic songs such as Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhe and Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan which made her a household name in Pakistan.
She was the recipient of the Ekushey Padak award in 1992 and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the film Chhutir Phande (1990).
