Neither Loud Nor Decisive, Sonam Kapoor Chooses Neutral Stance on Kashmir Issue

Sonam Kapoor, often known for her strong opinionated personality and loud mouth, has chosen a safe spot amid the ongoing Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India. While stars on one hand are being lauded and/or bashed for their clear voice over the Indian oppression in Jammu, Sonam decided the best was to keep both the sides happy.

While talking to BBC Asia, the actress was smart to appease Indian audiences as she termed herself as ‘patriotic’ but not taking it too far like her co-star Priyanka Chopra – pretty much under bad publicity these days – Sonam also talked of her ‘Pakistani roots’ that she’s unable to explore due to the conflict.

“I am half Sindhi and half Peshawari. It’s heartbreaking to see part of my culture is something that I can’t explore as well because of that [conflict],” said the Aisha actress.

Calculatingly speaking further the 34-year old added, “I think our countries were one country like 70 years ago and the fact that there is so much divisive politics at play is really heart-breaking.”

However, making sure that her Indian countrymen do not get provoked over her ‘heartbreak’ she chose to maintain a ‘oblivious’ tone over the ongoing oppression of human rights in IoK.

“I believe in having a peaceful discourse and understanding what’s going on. So when I have the complete information is when I think I can give an opinion,” she said while smartly dodging the bullet.

During the interview, Sonam also reiterated her patriotism and wish for peace, as she reflected upon the matter tactfully.

“It’s heartbreaking to see where the situation has landed right now and I’m very patriotic. So I think for me now it’s better to keep quiet and let this pass because even this too shall pass,” she basically chose to keep numb over the Indian atrocities.
