Filmmakers have released the trailer of the third film in the SpongeBob Movie franchise titled The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
The upcoming film is going to be about SpongeBob Squarepants and Patrick Star on the run to find their missing friend, a snail named Gary.
While the hilarious trailer amazes with incredible voiceovers by Tom Kenny as SpongeBob SquarePants and Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star. It has also surprised everyone with the cameo by Keanu Reeves, who is playing a sage in the film.
According to the film’s official synopsis: “This Memorial Day weekend, SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom hit the big screen in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture event.
After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.”
The first film of the franchise The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) made on a $30 million budget managed to garner $140.2 million at the worldwide box office.
The second film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water released in 2015, made on a $74 million budget collected $325.2 million internationally.
The live-action film is slated to hit the screens in May 2020.
