Strict security for Shah Rukh Khan at Men’s Hockey World Cup opening ceremony

Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan’s security arrangements are to be made tighter amid threats to throw ink on him, during his visit for Hockey World Cup inauguration ceremony.

SRK is reported to be present at the inaugural ceremony of the Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, India on November 27. Chief minister of the state Naveen Patnaik has invited Shah Rukh Khan for the inauguration.

An Indian local outfit, Kalinga Sena has threatened to throw ink at Shah Rukh Khan and raise black flags when he visits Bhubaneshwar next week for the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup. As they are demanding an apology for his 2001 movie, Asoka.

Film Asoka was released 17 years ago, could not run in the theatres in the state for more than seven days due to protests.

The outfit also filed a complaint with the police here on November 1 alleging that Shah Rukh Khan has hurt the sentiment of Odia people and dishonored the state’s culture by portraying the Kalinga war in a wrong manner.

The Kalinga (historical name of Odisha) war was fought in 265 BC in which Emperor Ashoka defeated the Kalinga king and the kingdom was annexed to the Mauryan empire. Historically, this war is considered one of the bloodiest battles and had prompted Asoka to embrace Buddhism.

While talking to Indian media, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the city, Anup Sahu said, “We will take adequate security measures for the visit of Shah Rukh Khan during Hockey World Cup. However, the schedule of the actor’s visit is yet to be received”.

The 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It is scheduled to be held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
