Taylor Swift refers to songwriting as ‘Protective Armour’

American songwriter and singer Taylor Swift — known for the narrative songs about her personal life, has said that she thinks of the activity as more cathartic than any other practice to get a relief on something and uses it as a ‘protective armour’.

The 29-year-old pop star has been included in Time magazine’s 100 most influential public figures recently and performed her fellow honourees at a ceremony in New York City.

Swift, during her performance to the audience explained how producing music allows her to deal the events in her life.

The singer performed on the songs including “Style”, “Delicate”, “New Year’s Day”, “Love Story” and “Shake It Off”.

“For me, writing, I’ve always known it was the main pillar holding up my career. I use it as a way to justifying things that happen to me. I’ve always known it was the main pillar of kind of my sanity as well, like I always looked at writing as sort of like“protective armour,” she said.

“Which is weird, because you think of writing about your life, that’s usually like vulnerability, but I think that when you write about your life, it gives you the ability to process your life. I use it as a way of justifying things that have happened to me,” the singer added.

Swift went on to state, she ‘likes to honour’ the good times and really process the bad times when she writes.
