Val Kilmer, the renowned actor known for his iconic roles in films like “Top Gun,” “Batman Forever,” and “The Doors,” passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 65.

His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to The New York Times that the cause of death was pneumonia.

Kilmer had been battling throat cancer since 2014, which significantly impacted his health and voice.

Born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, Kilmer was celebrated for his powerful performances and diverse filmography. He gained fame with early roles in “Top Secret!” (1984) and “Real Genius” (1985), before becoming a household name with his portrayal of Iceman in “Top Gun” (1986).

His portrayal of Jim Morrison in “The Doors” (1991) and Doc Holliday in “Tombstone” (1993) further solidified his reputation as a versatile actor.

Kilmer’s health struggles were documented in the 2021 film “Val,” which premiered at Cannes and provided an intimate look at his life and career.

Despite his health challenges, Kilmer continued to work in film, reprising his role as Iceman in “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022.

He is survived by his children, Mercedes and Jack Kilmer, both of whom are also involved in the entertainment industry.
