Veteran actress and celebrated radio presenter Begum Khursheed Shahid passed away aged 95 on Sunday in Lahore.
Begum Khursheed, who is also the mother of actor Salman Shahid, was reportedly ill for the last couple of months.
She was reportedly admitted to a hospital a few days back after she suffered a cardiac arrest.
Her funeral prayers were offered in Lahore at Defence Phase-II, Block-T.
Born in 1926, Begum Khursheed was a distinguished artist who worked for radio before and after the partition.
She started her acting as well as a singing career at the age of nine, and frequently performed at All India Radio, Delhi before partition.
The recipient of the Pride of Performance award in 1984 got married to producer Saleem Shahid at a very early age but the marriage did not last long as her husband wanted her to quit her association with the radio.
Her first PTV play “Rus Malai”, which was a comedy, and then she started working regularly in dramas; there’s a long list of PTV classics like Fehmida Ki Kahani Ustani Rahat Ki Zabani.
Her acting credits include some hit PTV dramas like ‘Uncle Urfi’, ‘Zair, Zabar, Pesh’ and ‘Parchaiyan’ and many more.
