YouTuber Yasir Shami’s Arrest Warrant Cancelled in Aamir Liaquat Video Leak Case

The next hearing is scheduled for the third week of April, where further proceedings will continue in this high-profile case.

Karachi’s City Court on Friday accepted the apology of Yasir Shami, a prominent YouTuber, and cancelled his arrest warrant in the case concerning the dissemination of explicit videos of the late television host and politician, Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain.

During the hearing, Shami presented himself before the court, complying with the judicial directives issued due to his previous non-appearances.

His counsel explained that Shami’s absence in the prior session was due to flight unavailability from Lahore to Karachi on the scheduled date, leading to his delayed arrival.

The court accepted this explanation but sternly warned that future absences would not be tolerated. Subsequently, the court adjourned the proceedings to the third week of April.

The case traces back to May 2024, when Dr. Aamir Liaquat’s former wife, Bushra Iqbal, filed a complaint against Yasir Shami and Dania Shah (also known as Dania Malik), accusing them of leaking inappropriate videos of the deceased television personality. Bushra Iqbal alleged that Dania Shah recorded the videos and sold them to Yasir Shami, who then disseminated them on digital platforms, leading to widespread circulation.

In response to these allegations, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, invoking sections 20, 21, and 24, which pertain to offences against the dignity of a natural person and cyberstalking. Consequently, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for both Dania Shah and Yasir Shami.

Dania Shah was arrested by the FIA from Lodhran in December 2022 but was later released on bail by a Karachi court. Yasir Shami, after initially evading arrest, surrendered to the Karachi City Courts in May 2024 and was granted bail upon furnishing a surety bond of Rs2.5 million.

The next hearing is scheduled for the third week of April 2025, where further proceedings will continue in this high-profile case.
