101-year-old Covid-19 infected person survives in Italy

A 101-year-old infected person of coronavirus after a miraculous recovery, has been discharged from the hospital in Rimini, Italy, reports said.

The patient, “Mr. P” as dubbed by the Italian media to hide his identity, had contracted the deadly virus but did not continue to show any symptoms and had tested negative before being discharged from the hospital.

This recovery of the old person has come as a ray of hope for the elderly across the world since it proved that the pathogen could be fought against regardless of the age of the infected individual.

Earlier, 103-year-old woman from Wuhan, China had also recovered in a week where the pathogen is believed to have spread. Similarly, a 97-year-old woman in South Korea had also full recovered after contracting the deadly virus.

The recovery of the elderly man in Italy came as a shock in Italy where the fatality rate for elderly person— over 70 stands at 86%. Italy  has seen an enormous spread of the viral outbreak with daily fatalities reached 919 on March 27, 2020.

It is worth noting here that this was the second pandemic Mr P survived. He was born in 1919, in the middle of the Spanish flu which was estimated to had infected 500 million people impacting a third of the world during the age.

Over 658,347 people have tested positive for COVID-19 out of which 30,460 have died across the world.
