2 neighborhoods in Islamabad’s I-10 sector sealed after several coronavirus positive cases

The federal capital Islamabad’s district administration on Thursday has sealed two residential neighbourhoods of Sector I-10 after coronavirus cases were confirmed among residents there.

According to a notification issued by the local administration, the district magistrate ordered that Sectors I-10/1 and I-10/4 are to be sealed, and also asked about deployment of Islamabad Police and Rangers to seal the said areas to ensure public safety.

On April 28, 36 new cases were reported in Islamabad resulting in the single biggest increase in its coronavirus tally since the pandemic began. Another 16 cases were reported the next day, bringing the capital’s total number of cases to 313.

The teams involved in surveillance to contain the spread of the COVID-19 in the federal capital have observed that social distancing is not being practised in shops that have opened with the Islamabad administration’s permission; reports said adding that large crowds were seen in markets and shopping centres, which is quite alarming.

According to these officials, Bhara Kahu, Tarlai and I-10 are the Islamabad’s coronavirus’ hotspots.

The government has already warned people about the rapid spreading of virus during Ramadan.

“People need to understand that if we don’t follow the precautionary measures, the situation may become worse. Pakistan is passing through a crucial, critical time when the disease can spread rapidly. I request the masses that they should change their routine of iftar, sehar and visiting mosques,” Special assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Zafar Mirza said in a press conference.
