Can coronavirus also spread through a mosquito bite?

Mosquitoes are known to spread various infections such as Malaria, West Nile virus and Zika. Many people wonder whether that also applies to the coronavirus.

“To date there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus could be transmitted by mosquitoes,” says the WHO

“The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose.”

WHO stated that mosquitos cannot spread the disease because the coronavirus does not usually circulate in the blood and is more predominant in the lungs and respiratory tract.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said, “At this time, CDC has no data to suggest that this new coronavirus or other similar coronaviruses are spread by mosquitoes or ticks. The main way that coronavirus spreads is from person to person.”

So, while a mosquito bite may be a pesky nuisance, it at least won’t infect you with coronavirus which has infected 2,801,649 people worldwide and claimed the lives of 195,438.
