Coronavirus Pandemic: Cases expected to surge to 50,000 by April 25, report

The federal government has submitted a report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the national action plan for tackling the COVID-19 epidemic spreading rapidly across the country.

The government in its report warned about the much increased cases of COVID-19 by April saying that the country feared to reach 50,000 cases in the wake of the severity arising of suspected cases.

“By April 25, the number of the coronavirus cases are feared to reach 50,000,” the report stated SC at one point.

According to the government briefed in the report, “around 7,000 cases of the total are expected to be critical in nature while around 2,500 could be a cause for concern”. The government estimates that “a further 41,000 cases could be of a mild nature”.

It is also said in the report that confirmed cases are expected to be lower while  comparing European countries to Pakistan assuring that the government is doing all measures it could do to maximize the testing capacity.

The government said that it has put in place an emergency plan costing $366 million and guidelines have been prepared in consultation from the medical experts.

“All the airports have special counters to monitor coronavirus,” adding that “around 222 suspected patients have been traced” due to entry and exit points checking at airports.

The report also mentioned that the areas adjacent to Iran and along the Balochistan border have declared an emergency to tackle incoming infected individuals, it says.

“Preparations were made to place patients in 154 districts under quarantine,” said the government report.

So far the country has recorded 28,24 cases and 43 deaths.
