WHO Urges Countries for Aggressive Action to Curtail COVID-19

After a number of countries including Uzbekistan and Hong Kong reverted back to lockdowns as locally transmitted COVID-19 cases increased, the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged the countries to take stricter measures. Citing the examples of India, Spain, and Italy the health organization said that regardless of how big the virus outbreak is, it can be controlled if the right mechanisms are adapted.

“Across all walks of life, we are all being tested to the limit,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a virtual press conference.

“From countries where there is exponential growth, to places that are loosening restrictions and now starting to see cases rise. Only aggressive action combined with national unity and global solidarity can turn this pandemic around,” he added.
