Kuch Ankahi Episode-9 Review: Progressive story-line continues to win hearts

ARY Digital and Kashf Foundation’s production drama Kuch Ankahi is riving the good old memories of PTV’s Haseena Moin plays. This classy play has got all progressive and inspiring characters instead of the regressive ones that we watch in our dramas all the time. In the previous episode, we have seen that Samia is in a dilemma and she really needs to grow a spine to call off her wedding. In this episode, Aliya tries to instil some courage in Samia and Agha Jee on Samia’s behalf takes an ultimate decision on which Samia’s mother collapses.

Samia shares about Shagufta’s call with Aliya. Aliya has made up her mind that she will let her sister ruin her life like that. Saima is of the view that she cannot refuse at this point it is going to bring disgrace to her family and eventually going to break her mother’s heart which she does not want. Aliya gives a wise reasoning for that she says if Samia gets into this visibly toxic marriage that will eventually be going to hurt her parents more.

Aliya takes Agha Jaan and Sophia phupho into full confidence and tells them about Shagufta’s call. Sophia Phupho and Agha Jaan tried their best to convince Samia’s mother to call off this wedding but she is resolute that if she will do that it will not only going to ruin Samia’s reputation but it will also going to affect Tania and Aliya’s life as well. Aliya assures her mother that they are enough for themselves.

The so-called honour parameters we have set are quite flawed. What if a bride calls off her wedding at the last moment for a very valid reason? Why it will tarnish her reputation? I am so happy that this serial is breaking these kinda stereotypical situations. These are all self-made assumptions nothing more. Agha Jaan takes a stand on her daughter’s behalf and calls Saif’s mother. Samia’s mother having a typical mentality cannot stand this situation and collapses. Samia musters some courage and calls Saif herself but her toxic mother takes over his cell phone on the speaker and tries to fool her more.

Salman and his mother are with Aliya’s family all that time. Salman takes Samia’s mother to the hospital and is at their side all the time. Although we miss Salman and Aliya’s banters, we love their newly established bond. Even Sophia Phupho hints at Aliya for Salman being a perfect and amiable guy. Sherish and her father’s conversation is very important why fathers don’t openly express their love for their sons as they do for their daughters? Deepak’s issue is very wisely and subtly handled, he eventually bit opens up about Liaqat Darzi with Sophia phupho. His getting scared to see Shakeel hints that the poor boy was sexually assaulted by his tailor master. Overall an excellent play!
