Pukaar Episode 1 Review: The drama begins on a good note!

Pukaar, the first episode of this Zahid Ahmed and Yumna Zaidi starrer aired on ARY Digital and from the looks of the first episode, we’re in for a very intense and high on emotions story. I am a huge Yumna Zaidi fan, I loved her  brilliant performances in drama serials Ullu Bara -e- Farookht Nahi and Dar Si Jati Hai Sila, and so naturally I had hopes from this serial too. And since the first episode of Pukaar aired, I have again become convinced of the powerhouse of talent that Yumna Zaidi happens to be.

Pukaar is based on a script by Adeel Razak and is being directed by Farooq Rind. Even though the first episode revolved around major introductions to the story and characters, we’ve found our new favorite with this drama.

The episode begins with a cute scene where Samra is reading a novel when she hears some noise outside. The dogs barking  make her more scared. She calls out for her parents and steps outside to find them. It is then she finds out that she has been given a surprise birthday party. Her friend Fahad is also present and when he tries to propose her, she shuts him down and in a rush, he leaves the ring box there.

Even though Samra regrets rejecting Fahad, she does not want to melt down. She and Fahad have a heated argument over lunch with their common friend and disappointed, Fahad leaves, commenting he’s soon to leave for the US.

In the following scenes, Samra’s father is robbed but coincidentally he is helped by Fahad who happens to be on the same road. Samra thinks of this as a scam arranged by Fahad and she is not the one to shy away from expressing what she feels. Although Samra’s mother knows Fahad has proposed her and she has rejected him, she still feels there is something that her daughter might feel for the guy, as she shares with her husband.Ev

Even though we are yet to see Zahid Ahmed enter the drama, we have been quite intrigued by its first episode.  Yumna’s and Saad’s brilliant performances were the highlights of the serial. Yumna Zaidi has been nailing it as Sila in Dar Si Jati Hai Sila on Hum TV and now it seems, Pukaar is going to ensure we have yet another proof of how versatile she is.

From the looks of it, a love triangle between Samra, Saraang and Fahad is about to ensue, but for that we’ll have to wait for a while. Farooq Rind is one amazing director and he ensures he portrays his brilliance in whatever he directs. Not one scene is dragged or feels overwhelming. So, if you really want to find out what happens next, don’t forget to watch the next episode of Pukaar on Thursday at 8pm, only on ARY Digital!
