George Clooney to make comeback on TV after two decades

George Clooney is making a comeback to television of sorts after two full decades of medical drama ER. This time, Clooney will now feature in an adaptation of Joseph Heller’s novel Catch-22. According to the actor, the novel’s plot had made it ideal for a six part series.

Earlier Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel was adapted into a movie in 1970. The film followed U.S. bombardier Yossarian who got infuriated with the army for always raising the number of missions he had to fly to be released from duty.

The hook of the novel came from Yossarian’s idea to avoid missions by declaring insanity but having to embark on more highly dangerous bombing runs.

Talking at the series’ premiere in LA on Tuesday, Clooney said, “I thought it was a fun way to tell this story. It’s hard to tell this story as complex as it is in a two-hour movie. It’s never been about the medium although television and streaming has gotten much more interesting and more fun, it was more about telling the story. It’s about telling good stories.”
