Kaisa Hai Naseeban Last Episode review: A powerful end!

This world is a reaping ground for what you sow. You do bad, you’ll get bad. Life comes a full circle before anybody is given a chance to depart from this world. And so we saw in the last episode of Kaisa Hai Naseeban. Sameena Aijaz wrote a powerful story, which might have shown a woman being a victim of domestic violence but she surely knew how to raise her protagonist from the ashes, gloriously, like a phoenix.

What we feel is that Mariam’s character was confident and powerful from day one. She accepted Ahmed’s behavior and did not make a sound because she was afraid for her parents. Thanks to Ahmed’s and Musarrat’s manipulation, Mariam was often waylaid since she was innocent to believe that good existed in just about everyone.

As for Ahmed and Musarrat, these were people who did not think about their deeds, considering themselves demigods. They forgot that life has to end and we’re repeatedly told Karma works in its own ways.

The last episode was not only engaging, it was highly satisfying. Mariam was able to prove her case in the court where she was granted a divorce (khula). However, an adamant and arrogant Ahmed did not pay heed to the court’s order and tried to run free from the police, resulting in a major accident which left him bed ridden for the rest of his lives. On the other hand, Mariam blossomed like a flower once she was out of her abusive relationship. She excelled in her career and achieved success, making the audience happy.

A husband and a wife are a pair who ought to stick together. Had Ahmed lovingly convinced Mariam to work alongside him and shared equal responsibilities, there wouldn’t have been trouble in their paradise. Kaisa Hai Naseeban taught us a number of lessons; first, its not good to stay quiet and let people override your self respect. Second, identify abuse from the get go, physical, verbal, emotional and mental, abuse is abuse no matter what. Third, parents ought to thoroughly background check before marrying off their daughters, even if its family. Fourth, divorce is not a stigma. There is no end to domestic violence once it begins. Take a step the very first time. Fifth, compatibility is important so girls speak up if you don’t find a proposal acceptable. Ma baap ki izzat will stay intact if you choose to voice your opinion and take a stand for yourself.

Ahmed Bhatti as a director brought out some excellent peformances from the lead cast. Waseem Abbas as Jamal was impressive and so was Agha Mustafa as Affan. Muneeb Butt emerged as the star of the show alongside Ramsha Khan. We’ve always seen Muneeb play innocent characters and as Ahmed, he definitely changed his game. We now know, Muneeb Butt can play an antagonist with perfection and nail his character. Uzma Gillani is a veteran and no words can praise her performance as Musarrat. Ahmed and Musarrat were despicable, thanks to brilliant performances by Muneeb Butt and Uzma Gilani respectively.

A wonderful journey indeed, Kaisa Hai Naseeban won our hearts for what it was, an eye opener with the harsh realities of life, presented as they our.

  1. I agree with what you wrote on the important factors when deciding upon marriage. BUT I think compatibility, consent of the two people actually marrying are more important. In Kaisa Hai Naseeban Mariams father seems to think that his being male equals him God. He completely ignores and works against common sense.

His sister brings a marriage proposal. Fine talk it over with your daughter and let her decide.
His sister then ask him to pay for a lavish wedding and in addition borrow him 40 lakhs. This is where he should have politely declined and told her that a wedding can happen modestly. Paer utne hi phalao jitni chador hai. I mean you dont take on debth just to satisfy materialistic needs and that of a third person who lives abroad. Besides who brings a marriage proposal and expects a wedding to take place immediately without bringing the cash to pay for it. You do not remortgage your home. Your only home.

Mariam made me furious because she shifts between victim and showing some sign of selfrespect but then when faced Ahmed at her house where he proceeds to insult her family, her and orders her around as a maid AFTER she told him she wasnts a divorce she just follows him. What happened to “agar samnay hota to uska moon noch leti”. Well go on hit him kick him out. Can random people even if family members just walk into a house with apparently unlocked gates at ALL times and occupy the house like Ahmed?

Why did Mariam not file a case against him in Malaysia before leaving. Her failure to do so could cause Ahmed to mistreat somebody else the same way. He is a criminal and misogynist egged on by his equally shallow and misogynistic sister and mother.

But Mariams father angers me because he shows that being a man does not necessarily mean you are fit to make decisions and certainly it shows abuse of such authority. He asks his daughter to keep his maan even if she suffers. She must only come to his house with a smile. Where do daughters turn to in times of need when their parents are more busy keeping up appearences. After Ahmed occupied their house, her mother just treats him like he is a guest. Hello!???!! He has beated, abused and enslaved your daughter and even threatened to kill her and not refuses to let her free from this crappy marriage and you are treating him kindly?

Men are maintainers, providers and protectors in Islam. So I respectfuully disagree with you in that Ahmed should have lovingly told Mariam that he needs her to work alongside him. He didnt even want to marry her and he does not work. He thinks a woman should work and provide for him and his household. What really is the difference between a Mariam and maid/(se.x))slave? None. How can Mariam even sleep with him?

No Mariam had ample chance to alert her household. Borrow a phone by a random stranger, a neighbour or at work and call your family and ask for a ticket home. Go to your embassy and tell them you have nowhere to go. File a case of abuse and enslavement with the police. Come home and tell your stupid father to be quiet and let her live her life. The man is not mentally equipped to be a father or responsible. It is literally like seeing a 5 year old kid trying to navigate adulthood.

So Mariam and her father are both to blame. Not Ahmed, his mother or his sister. Teach your women NOT to keep your “maan”, your godforsaken “izzat” and instead tell them to call anytime day or nite and they are not forced to stay in abuse. Raise them to have knowledge and awarness of basic rights. What is the point of being educated like Mariam and not know your islamic rights. Why even have a nikah. That is islamic. Just go live with him because ultimately you dont care about the rights God gave you. Dont raise girls to be cowards and submissive.

Marriage is between equals and based on love, trust and respect. If you have none of these, then you have no marriage. You can walk out, apply for Khul and begin a new life after iddat. End of. Pakistani culture needs to change and our media must stop indoctrinating us with the same “bechari” ladki walay. Enough. Show empowered and strong women who can be role models for other. Women who walk away and are not scared by divorce. Girls are not inferior or synonymous with suffering, patience and compromise. They are entitled to respect and abuse free lives. Teach them that.
