Netflix Animated Sitcom Rick and Morty Draws Ire Over 9/11 Joke

A hit Netflix animated sitcom for adults Rick and Morty has left its viewers after a ‘tone-deaf’ joke regarding the 9/11 attack.

The seventh episode of the fourth season ‘Promortyus’ was aired earlier this week on Sunday and did not go down well with many viewers.

The episode shows the grandfather and grandson duo fighting off the alien and attacking a harbor recreating the Pearl Harbor scene instead of the New York twin towers.

“Honestly, I’m proud of us for not …”, says Rick to which Morty responds: “Totally, would have been cheap.”

The duo was later making tone-deaf jokes and laughing on it over the table, “We almost did a 9/11, we went with the Pearl Harbor. We’re pretty classy,” says Morty.

This aroused fury among the fans who said how joking about the darkest incident in the history of the USA is anything but hilarious.

“Is Rick and Morty still doing 9/11 jokes? Because wow, that’s so funny in 2020,” a user commented.

“That 9/11 joke was a bit harsh… but the Pearl Harbour one was okay. #RickandMorty,” another user added.
