The Academy rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s bid to appear on the Oscar awards ceremony telecast it emerged on Thursday.
The Academy for the second year in a row has snubbed Zelensky, who was hoping to follow up his Berlin Film Festival (remote) appearance last month with a virtual spot on Sunday’s Oscar telecast on ABC.
As reported, WME power agent Mike Simpson made a plea to the Academy to include the comedic actor-turned-politician, the current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskbut was shut down.
For the past year, Volodymyr Zelensky has been making appearances at awards shows, film festivals and even the New York Stock Exchange.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Zelensky has popped up via satellite at both the Cannes and Venice film festivals including the Grammy Awards
He also virtually rang the Opening Bell of the New York Stock Exchange last year in September.
However, back in September 2022, when Zelensky’s team reached out to the Toronto Film Festival about the leader appearing via satellite, they were turned down.
