American ‘DirecTV’ accidentally broadcasts GoT before scheduled time

Blunders can happen anywhere; even the internationally acclaimed firms have gone through some sorry situations and handled smartly.  This time, an American direct broadcast satellite service provider ‘DirecTV Now’ accidentally aired the highly anticipated season of Game of Thrones hours before it was scheduled to be available for subscribers. The premiere was scheduled for 9 p.m ET — the time HBO typically airs “Game of Thrones.”

Some posts on Twitter revealed that the first episode of season 8 became available to stream four hours ahead of scheduled time but became posted on DirecTV at around 5 p.m. ET. The service is owned by Telecommunications Company AT&T and includes HBO channels at a premium rate.

The users of the service provider received a push alert around 5 p.m. ET that “Winterfell” was available to watch and fans quickly took to social media to reveal what had happened.

Once AT&T, the parent company of HBO caught wind of it, the episode was promptly removed and re-aired at the original intended air time of 9 p.m.

“Apparently our system was as excited as we are for Game of Thrones tonight and gave a few DirectTV Now customers early access to the episode by mistake. When we became aware of the error, we immediately fixed it and we look forward to tuning in this evening.” the company said in a statement.
