Andy Serkis to direct ‘Venom 2’

It is official now! Andy Serkis is all set to direct the sequel to last year’s superhero box office smash hit Sony’s Venom 2.

The comic-book adventure grossed $213 million at the domestic box office and a massive $855 million worldwide starring Tom Hardy in the lead role.

As soon as this news became public, Serkis took to social media sharing a selfie of him along with a copy of Venom: Lethal Protector #6, on his twitter profile.

Andy Serkis captioned his post: It’s happening. The Symbiote has found a host in me and I’m ready for the ride…Can’t wait!

It was coincidental though that the early-1990s mini-series provided some inspiration for the initial Ruben Fleischer-helmed Venom.

Reportedly, the shoot for Venom 2 will begin this fall. Though much of the details for the upcoming sequel are not known yet, however, Hardy is surely returning as the journalist-turned-alien symbiote.

As being reported, Serkis was among a few of filmmakers that were being considered for directing the sequel earlier this month, a group that included “Bumblebee” helmer Travis Knight and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes’” Rupert Wyatt.

Venom 2  will be Serkis’ third feature following Breathe and Mowgli.

Sony has recently dated an untitled Marvel sequel for October 2020, and Superhero enthusiasts were quick to assume that slot was for “Venom 2,” giving it the same release date as its predecessor.
